Carter Morton, a third-year track and field athlete at the University of Northern Iowa and a 2020 Greene County High School graduate from Jefferson, won the Iowa State University Holiday Invitational heptathlon held on Dec. 9-10. Morton scored 5,651 points to secure his second career win in the event.
Morton set new personal bests in three of four events on Friday and two of three events on Saturday. Morton won the high jump at 6′ 10-3/4″ (personal best), the long jump at 23′ 5-1/4″, and the pole vault on Saturday at 15′ 1″ (personal best). He has recorded the fourth highest heptathlon score in UNI history with a career-best 5,651 points. Morton’s score currently ranks first in all of NCAA Division I indoor track and field.
Carter is the son of Chad and Deb (Barber) Morton of Jefferson.
